Several of us here at TrainSignal are preparing to take CompTIA A+ exams this month. With exams like the CompTIA A+ 220-801 and 220-802, there’s so much material to learn and terminology to master that it seems like you can never study enough. I’ve always found flash cards to be a really helpful way of memorizing definitions and quick facts, so I’m really excited that we’ve created flash cards for the CompTIA A+ 220-801 and 220-802 exams, and they’re available for you to download as part of the CompTIA A+ 220-801 training course.
There are over 600 flashcard questions for each exam. They come in PDF format, which is great because they’re compatible with PC, Mac, tablet and smartphone, so you can use them at your desk or on the go.
If you’re using a tablet or smartphone, we recommend using one of the following apps for the best possible results:
- Kindle App
- Adobe Reader
- iBooks
The following apps are not recommended, as we haven’t had good experience using the flash cards with them:
- Nook app
- Default PDF reader
It’s super-easy to download the flash cards:
1. Log into your account at trainsignal.com.
2. Click on the “Courses” link.
3. Click on “CompTIA A+ 220-801 (2012 Objectives)”
4. In the lesson list, click the “Download Content Files” link for either “Lesson 1: Anatomy of a Personal Computer” or “Lesson 26: CompTIA A+ Exam Preparation.” Both lessons have the flash cards in their content zip files.
Once downloaded, you need to extract the files. If you’re using your tablet or smartphone, you will need to use an app to extract the zip files.
There are dozens, if not hundreds of iOS and Android apps for extracting files from zip folders. These are some of the most popular for each platform:
- iOS
- FileApp (free and paid versions)
- File Lite (free and paid versions)
- Android
- AndroZip
- WinZip
Using the flash cards
For best results, view the flash cards in full screen mode. We designed the flash cards with tablets and smartphones in mind, so you study for the A+ wherever you are. See the “Next” and “Back” buttons? We placed them right around where your thumbs are when holding your device. So if you’re in full screen mode inside your preferred PDF reader, you can just tap the “Next” and “Back” buttons to flip to the next card. Of course if you’re using a PC or Mac, if you don’t have a touchscreen you’ll have to use your keyboard, but it’s still as simple as clicking the arrow keys to go from one card to the next.
Something else I want to draw your attention to is the table of contents. Each exam objective is listed in the table of contents, so if you want to brush up on a specific topic, you can quickly navigate to that objective. Just access the app or program’s built-in table of contents functionality.
Love the feature? Want flash cards for other courses? Post a comment and let us know.
Note: Flash cards are currently available for the CompTIA A+ 220-801 exam. When the CompTIA A+ 220-802 training course is released, those questions will be available.
